1314: The Battle of Bannockburn gets underway between England and Scotland. Edward II of England wound up fleeing the battlefield and Scotland won the day.
1757: At the Battle of Plassey, 3,000 British troops under Robert Clive defeat 50,000 Indian troops under Siraj Ud Daulah. This is considered by some (well, me at any rate) to be the start of the British Raj. Wikipedia disagrees with me. They say the Raj didn't get going until the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857. The way I see it, prior to Clive's victory, the British East India Company was only a few clusters of minor trading outposts who were only permitted to stay because of the good graces of the various Indian princes and whoever was running the remnants of the Mughal Empire. After Plassy, the East India Company actively started to run India rather than just trade with it. One hundred years later, after the Sepoy Rebellion, is when India actually became a subject of the Crown and a part of the British Empire, rather than just some natives they were pushing around. That's also when the British sovereign (in this case, Queen Vicky) gained the title "Empress of India." I'd broach the subject on the Wikipedia forums but if you think I'm going to enter the snake pit of Wikipedia editing (especially on such a delicate subject as the Raj) you're crazy.

logged and measured out some more core for sampling. We also quick logged some of the coolest rock I have seen yet. It was all SP (sericitic phyllite) but with modifiers like gr for graphitic and AUM altered ultra mafic and a variety of SP that was purple. The purple is due to the abundance of chromium. I got pictures of it too. Tomorrow is my day off and I cant wait because Im really hurting. My throat has been sore for 2 days and I just need some rest. After work I gathered my things for the night and the next day and hoped on the bus. The boat ride was really amazing I swear my throat was feeling better before we even docked. It was like the remedy my body needed. A chance to unwind and stop thinking and just enjoy the whales and beautiful snow capped mountains. I had a little chat with liz when I walked over to the sunny side of the boat. Leif got a ride from his dads friend so I hitched a ride with him and leif dropped me off at jeffs car. I almost didnt get a room again, but I did get a room with a broken tv! The guy working the desk hooked me up with a new room though. That was awesome.

Next morning I woke up around ten and went back to the breeze in to get some breakfast and lunch. I got a Boston cream, what I thought was a apple turn over, a sandwich and wheat things. I couldnt wait to go see the glacier so I ate the Boston cream while I was driving. The drive is only about 5 min and o yea after the food stop I got stopped in a girl salon to get a hair cut but they turned me down because the lady was packed that was gay so I asked the girl where I could get this mop cut and she directed me across the street. The shop was tiny and a native girl was working it and was all pierced and tattooed up. She was cool but what wasnt cool was the buzz cut cost 15 dollars!! I should have just bought my own clippers. Anyways I got what I wanted and was on my way to the glacier in no time. This time I wanted to visit the glacier and not hike a lung out of my chest so I went on the east side where the waterfall is. I took tons of pictures and saw lots of cool stuff. I wish I could get closer. I probably will next time by taking that trail down to that peninsula. I also when to the west side of the glacier to walk along the coast of the lake/river. I found a spot to sit down like in a reclining chair position. I closed my eyes for awhile there. After relaxing I put some gas in Jeffs truck, parked it and walked to Hawk Bay. I talked to dylan for almost the whole boat ride. I spent the rest of the night catching the starfish that were chilling right under the airplane dock. Derek and I shoveled one up from the floor. It was sweet. We spent over two hours out there enjoying the nice sunny weather.
